Workload is varied, but general radiology largely consists of supporting inpatient /AE service, and outpatient cross-sectional imaging and ultrasound/ FNAs.  Contribution to cardiothoracic imaging services include supporting Cardiac CT and MRI sessions, reporting relevant cross sectional imaging and participating in relevant MDTs.
The candidate will be expected to support general diagnostic radiology on-call service as well. Please find the attached job description and person specification for further information.

Gweithio i'n sefydliad

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better. We were the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance in 2023/24; we’re no longer in special measures; and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and that our patients are happy with.

Many of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. More than 400 of them are on apprenticeship programmes and we’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We operate from two main sites - King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London – more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023.

Patients across north east London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It’ll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.

The successful candidate will have specific training and experience in all aspects of cardio-thoracic imaging. They will be able to lead clinic-radiological meetings, primarily supporting the lung cancer, screening, and nodule pathways. Skills in lung interventional procedures, primarily CT-guided biopsy and chest drainage are not mandatory but there will be a degree of flexibility to accommodate the successful candidate’s preferences and interests.
There is a well-established cardiac CT service, and it is expected that the appointee will also be able to support this across the sites. We have plans for expanding cardiac imaging service to develop cardiac MRI and training and experience of cardiac MRI imaging will be beneficial as these services grow.
The post is designed to share the responsibility for the provision of comprehensive diagnostic services including the provision of a range of MDT and on-call services.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the general work of the department - including general CT, MRI, US, and plain film reporting - and to support departmental objectives.
Contribution to the general duty roster which involves vetting cross-sectional scans and solving queries from clinical and radiology teams is mandatory.
It is mandatory to cover general diagnostic radiology on-call commitment equally with existing consultants. Currently, there is a 1:12 rota. The on call is outsourced after 8 pm on weekdays and 6 pm on weekends.
