Lead Nurse/Transfer Practitioner ACCTS KSS

Band 8a

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven clinical leader to be part of the development, delivery and progression of the newly commissioned Adult Critical Care Transfer Service (ACCTS) serving Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS).

The Kent Surrey and Sussex Adult Critical Care Transfer service is a regionally based critical care transfer service providing consultant led coordination, decision-support and transfer of critically ill patients between hospitals for time critical and non-time critical escalation to specialist care, retrieval, repatriation, and non-clinical transfers for capacity during periods of surge. The service is funded by NHS England South East and hosted by the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust working with South East Coast Ambulance Service and all hospitals across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.

We are looking for an experienced critical care practitioner with significant post registration experience, to include a qualification in adult critical care (or equivalent). Applicants with experience in performing critical care transfers are desirable. The successful candidate will need to evidence substantial leadership and management experience and demonstrate the ability to deliver creativity and apply strategic thinking.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will utilise their clinical and specialist professional skills as a key member of the multidisciplinary ACCTS leadership team and will lead the development of the service and the transfer practitioner team, ensuring that the clinical service delivers an effective and efficient service in line with the national service specification. The post holder will, alongside the Lead Consultant and Operations Manager, also develop and deliver a robust governance structure for the new organisation ensuring that the clinical care delivered is of the highest quality and standardised in accordance with national guidance, policies and the National Service Frameworks.

They will also be required to provide specialised knowledge and skilled care for critically ill adults requiring transfer, and their families. The post holder will engage in transfer clinical activity to maintain their relevant registration and clinical competency.

The role will also require the management of training, recruiting and retaining high quality staff, provide effective appraisal and team working and strong staff involvement in decision making within their sphere of responsibility. Communication is key and the post holder will have responsibility for establishing and maintain robust systems to cascade information, receive feedback, and take appropriate action where necessary.
