Are you looking to increase your experience and move onto a new challenge – then we have some exciting opportunities within Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust for Speech and Language Therapists interested in working in Adult Community. 

The post is based at West Berkshire Hospital  although the post holders will be expected to also work Berkshire wide as part of our new service delivery and flexible ways of working. The base can therefore be flexible also as we have bases at a number of community sites  

The Community team have a varied caseload of adults with a wide range of disorders and difficulties such as stroke, Motor Neurone Disease, Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease and Traumatic Brain Injury.  

Primarily our caseload consists of clients with dysphagia and therefore experience, relevant training and passion to work in this area is required 

We also provide support for adults with communication needs. We work closely with other professionals in the community as well as the patients and their families to provide the best support for them in their homes and within our clinics based in Newbury, Reading, Slough and Maidenhead. 

We offer LSVT as part of our service and training will be provided.

As a department we are a friendly team who all work together to provide a dynamic and pro-active service to our patients. We have a range of experience and specialisms, and we are keen to provide clinical support, and formal and informal training. We have a strong commitment to clinical supervision and Continuing Professional Development; you will be regularly supervised by a senior therapist. And have group peer supervision.

  • You will be responsible for the case management (assessment and management) of individuals with dysphagia in the community setting. 

  • Assessment and treatment of progressive and acquired disorders 

  • Opportunity for some work with individuals with communication needs. 

  • As a band 6 you will offer supervision and support to band 5 therapists alongside the current  band 7s with whom you will share responsibility of clinical development  

  • Support will be provided for a Band 5 with experience moving into this band 6 role 

  • Flexible working using a range of mediums 

  • Attendance at regular team meetings and clinical/peer supervision.
