Job overview

An exciting part-time opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated dietitian to join our team of 40 at The Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust in Guildford.

We are looking for somebody with experience in gastroenterology and acute management of eating disorders. The caseload will be very varied including outpatient clinics, inpatient ward cover and delivering patient educational group sessions. You will work alongside the gastroenterology consultants and nutrition nurses. We are looking for someone who is proactive and has the initiative to develop and / or improve the efficiency of a service.

Main duties of the job

You will join a forward thinking dietetic team which undertakes the training of A, B and C placement students, and also focuses on research and audit in its areas of activity to promote clinical effectiveness in patient care. Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the nutrition and dietetic management of patients who have gastrointestinal conditions including functional bowel disorders (for example irritable bowel syndrome), inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease. This will include both oral and enteral nutrition support.

The post holder will be an integral part of the Gastro dietetic team, sharing responsibility for the smooth running of the dietetic gastroenterology service in line with Trust performance targets. They will provide specialist dietetic support to individuals in the inpatient and outpatient setting. The post holder will have an active role in teaching other professionals, including students and patients, and responsibility for supervising junior staff.  A considerate, patient focused service will be provided in all dealings with patients and with staff around the hospital. 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Dietetics or equivalent and registration with HCPC
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the British Dietetics Association
  • Membership of BDA specialist group such as the Gastroenterology Specialist group
  • FODMAP trained (Kings FODMAP course)
  • Driving licence

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Post qualification experience including nutrition support and enteral feeding
  • Evidence of MDT work
  • Evidence of ability to manage complex clinical presentations
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with managing patients with eating disorders
  • Experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area
  • Work in acute and community settings
