Probationary Period
All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

Agile and Flexible Working
All our staff will have a work base. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. However, occasionally travel around Warwickshire and into your base will be required so access to your own transport would be helpful.

Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of NHS Locum Consultant General Surgeon at South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust. This post is to commence as soon as possible and will run through to at least April 2025.
The post attracts 10 PAs (additional PAs may be negotiable) and will include an on-call commitment for emergency general surgery (currently 1 in 10). The post is based at Warwick Hospital with some clinics held at Stratford upon Avon Hospital if required.
Main duties of the job
This is a locum post to cover a period of additional training for 2 of our substantive consultants, who will be reducing their emergency commitment during this time. The candidate will be capable of performing on-call for Emergency General Surgery at Consultant Level.
Outpatient clinics take place at both Warwick and Stratford Hospital. Inpatient surgical care is at Warwick Hospital. Elective Paediatric surgery is done on a dedicated bi-weekly paediatric day.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The elective work includes mainly laparoscopic cholecystectomy and hernia repair. Additional activity in out-patients, theatres and endoscopy can be arranged to suit the experience of the successful candidate. 60-80% of laparoscopic cholecystectomies are performed as day cases. Emergency cholecystectomies are supported by NCEPOD. The trust has recently acquired a da Vinci robot and training is being cascaded through the surgical team. We would welcome applications from candidates with experience in General Surgery of Childhood.
