An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 clinical research nurse to join our multidisciplinary team within the NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility. The unit is a NHS research facility at Hammersmith Hospital in west London. It is located at the heart of one of the UK’s most research-intensive universities, Imperial College. It provides a dedicated, well-equipped and professional environment that enables medical staff and scientists to work together.

We are looking for a motivated, skilful and knowledgeable nurse who works well as part of a team. Knowledge of clinical research is necessary. Strong background of clinical skills (administration of intravenous drugs, phlebotomy and cannulation) is essential.

The unit specialises in commercial and academic early phase clinical studies in various disease areas including respiratory, renal, neurology, oncology and metabolic medicine as well as healthy volunteers’ trials. We host complex and challenging studies and we expect the post holder to adapt to the required flexibility of our portfolio.

Working with genetically modified organism medicines may be part of the activities you are involved in. You will always be provided with the required training and support to deliver the required care. The unit operates days with early (8.00-16.00) and late shifts (12.00-20.00) as well as nights (19.45-08.15). We are normally closed at weekends.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • The aim of this job is to provide best care to volunteers and patients participating in clinical research studies in the Imperial Clinical Research Facility (ICRF). You are expected to carry out procedures and investigations on research participants (healthy volunteers or patients) according to study protocol, Trust and local policies. Procedures include administration of Trial drugs, monitoring participants’ progress, continuous assessment of participants’ health, and collecting and processing blood and other biological samples.
  • You will also be expected to lead on some studies. This may involve setting up studies with the required documents and approvals, monitor and support recruitment, organise participants’ visits and schedules, and record, report and follow up progress and plans. You are expected to supervise nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals assigned to and working on studies you lead on.
  • The post holder is expected to remain up to date with Trust and local policies and help support the unit’s quality accounts by continuous auditing and developing standards. You are expected to continue developing yourself professionally and academically by utilising the relevant training and support opportunities available.
