Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Sister /Charge Nurse to join our established Almroth Wright nursing team. We are seeking either an experienced band 5 or existing band 6 team leader who is enthusiastic and passionate about providing high quality care in Gastroenterology conditions. You will be flexible with the ability to lead, motivate and co-ordinate a team. 

The applicant should have the ability to work independently and within a team, with patient experience at the heart of their care delivery. There should be evidence of self-development and a clear plan for the applicant’s further development, along with the qualification to mentor students. The applicant will work alongside the Practice Nurse Educators to provide education and training to junior staff. When in charge the expectation is to lead, support and motivate your team to ensure high quality care is delivered.   As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse you will be expected to deputise in the absence of the Matron. 

Within your role of deputising for the Matron, you will be empowered within your role to develop further. This includes guidance within incident reporting and investigations, safe staffing and rosters, and quality governance and assurance through audit. In addition, we are fully committed to support the successful candidate to complete university courses at Masters Level.

Main duties of the job

  • To demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients/clients, visitors/relatives and colleagues, maintaining good customer relations.
  • Contribute towards sharing good practice within the ward/department and Trust wide.
  • To work cohesively with all members of the ward team in ensuring that the very best services to patients are provided at all times.
  • In partnership with other professionals and disciplines to develop individual programmes which provide measurable outcomes of patient care. The process should include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with Trust and local policies.
  • To take charge of the clinical needs of a group of defined patients and/or ward or department on occasion prioritising workload according to changing clinical need over a 24 period.
  • Under the supervision of the ward / department manager to work on delegated projects relating to local policy and service development.
  • To work towards an awareness of service delivery plans.
  • To be involved actively in the implementation of Trust policies and procedures at ward /department level, reinforcing their use.
  • To work together with the ward team to ensure effective use of resources & adequate stock levels.
  • Actively manage own annual leave in line with Trust and local Policy and Procedure.
