Job overview

The service is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist with experience in forensic psychiatry to work within the low secure female mental health service.  The service currently works within a continuous care model with an eleven bedded inpatient ward  and a small cohort of outpatients (up to 15).  The inpatient service is a regional service providing secure care to adult women within the footprint of the West Yorkshire Secure Provider Collaborative.  The community service  provides outpatient follow up to Leeds service users only.  Referrals are received from medium security for step down, prisons and acute services. 

 

The final program of activities will be worked out with the post holder on a ratio of 7.5 direct clinical care to 2.5 supporting professional activities.

This is a 10 PA post plus a 1% category B availability for out of hours on-call duties.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will

  • Have RC responsibilities for up to 11 female inpatients detained on restricted and unrestricted sections of the MHA
  • Act as consultant psychiatrist/ responsible clinician to about 15 female outpatients (informal, on community treatment orders/ conditional discharge)
  • Provide access assessments on behalf of the West Yorkshire secure provider collaborative. 
  • Provide risk assessment and management advice for colleagues in acute services.  
  • It is anticipated that the frequency of assessments would be about 1-2 per month.
  • Provide excellent clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team to stabilise acute mental illness and manage risk.  The female ward provides care from admission to discharge to the community although there are rehabilitation services available within the trust. Pathways to the community include discharge to the care of the forensic outreach team in Leeds and for some, referral to local community services within the wider West Yorkshire provider collaborative. 
  • Deliver high quality efficient and effective care for service users working in a trauma informed collaborative way.
  • Teach, train and supervise junior medical staff and other professionals
  • Comply with the requirements of the GMC and Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Contribute to the wider functions of the trust including governance, appraisal, quality improvement
  • The post holder will join the Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust general adult on-call rota and will be third on-call

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • MBBS
  • • Full registration with the General Medical Council with a license to practice
  • • CCT or CESR in Forensic or WAA psychiatry (with appropriate experience) or inclusion on the GMC specialist register anticipated within the next 6 months
  • • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
  • • Approved under Section 12 (2)
  • • Approved Clinician status (may be anticipated within the next 3months)
