A full time Substantive Consultant post in Chronic Pain has come available at Whipps Cross Hospital. This post has arisen due to service expansion and staffing changes. Further details and sample job plan can be found within the Job Description.
We are looking for people who can make a specific contribution to both departments and hospitals.
This is an excellent opportunity for dynamic individuals with the appropriate skills to join a first-class multi-disciplinary team providing the full range of services to the majority of East London and beyond in a progressive London teaching hospital environment. Qualifications/Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
- • Full GMC Registration
- • FRCA or equivalent
- • 12 months of Advanced pain training- and achievement of APT competencies per RCoA curriculum
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of extended Advanced Pain training beyond 12 months
- • FFPMRCA Completion
- • Experience of UK healthcare system
- • Academic distinction/prizes
Special Knowledge/Abilities and/or Experience
Essential criteria
- • Multidisciplinary chronic pain management.
- • Appropriate evidence that candidate is experienced enough to operate at consultant level in a busy DGH environment.
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of experience in interventions for both non cancer and cancer pain
- • Experience in Hospice Work
Clinical expertise in Pain Medicine
Essential criteria
- • Independent clinical practice in Neuromodulation
Desirable criteria
- • Interest and expertise in Regional Anaesthesia
- • Interest and expertise in Perioperative Medicine
- • Additional postgraduate exam qualifications which serve to enhance knowledge and ability to provide holistic Acute & Chronic Pain patient care
Personal Skills/Qualities

- • Ability to communicate clearly and intelligently in written and spoken English
- • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team, make decisions and exert appropriate authority
- • Ability to build strong and effective relationships with patients, relatives and colleagues

- • Leadership skills appropriate to leading a multidisciplinary team
- • Directing and teaching medical, nursing and other professionals
- • Patience and compassion
Teaching & Training
Essential criteria
- • Involvement in teaching undergraduates, junior medical staff, nurses and allied health professionals

- • Evidence of training in teaching skills.
- • Involvement in formal undergraduate and post graduate education
Quality Improvement/Research

- • Understands quality improvement and research methodology
- • Actively encourages quality improvement and research with junior and other staff
