Job overview
Syncope is a medical term for a blackout or faint caused by a sudden drop in the supply of blood to the brain, leading to a short-term loss of consciousness. The Imperial College Healthcare syncope diagnostic unit is a high volume service investigating the causes of syncope events and providing care for sufferers of syncope.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Syncope Nurse to working closely with the Syncope and MDT to fulfil this role. The post holder will need to be working at least as a band 6 nurse in cardiology or a specialist areas with the right transferable skills.
The post holder will work within the Syncope team providing a Tilt Test Service and syncope clinic.
The post holder will be required to work through a comprehensive competence process to be deemed competent to independently perform Tilt Tests.
The post holder will have experience in working within cardiology and have an extensive background of dealing with patient cardiac patients, ECG interpretation.
Main duties of the job
- To work as part of the Syncope Service providing Tilt testing and with the LinQ team for LinQ Implantation service.
- This post will work across the both services where the nurse will perform Tilt testing and insert Implantable Loop Recorders.
- The post holder will actively be involved with research within the department.

Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RGN registration
- ENB 254 or equivalent
- GCP training/Qualification
- Post basic teaching and assessing course
Desirable criteria
- Clinical/physical assessment course
- Has attained a Degree or working towards one
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of cardiac nursing knowledge and skills.
- Working within the specialist nursing field sufficiently equalling experience of a band 7 nurse.
- Worked within research nursing with relevant experience equivalent of 3-4 years.
Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential criteria
- Experience of managing patients with cardiac arrhythmias
- Ability to adapt to changing needs of service.
- Advanced interpersonal skills
- Leadership skills.
- Flexible
