Job overview

Are you  a dynamic and innovative midwife who would like to join our specialist service at Imperial. This role is fixed term position

This unique role is to cover 2 days diabetic midwifery service

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced midwife to enhance their skills  working  collaboratively within a unique specialised services of Diabetic Medicine, C and the multidisciplinary team across health care settings to optimise their involvement with complex care pathways and improve health outcomes for diabetic women/birthing people.

You will be responsible for the providing support and reassurance to the women/birthing people who are referred this to this service.

You will require to keep data on outcomes and participate in ongoing or new audits and be involved in any QI projects related to the service

You will support individualised women/birthing people centred care on who have either pre-existing diabetes or diagnosed in pregnancy.

It is essential that you have an understanding of the Maternity National Drivers that relate to this service.

Main duties of the job

To work as a prime care provider in all aspects of midwifery care. Providing continuity of midwifery care within continuity of care team. To work flexibly within the team to provide 24 hour cover for antenatal/postnatal wards and delivery suite. This will require internal rotation between areas and day/night duty.

Person specification

Education/ qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Midwifery degree or equivalent
  • Mentorship or full SSSA preparation
  • Registered Midwife (on NMC register)
Desirable criteria
  • Diabetic experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Completed 3 year post registration clinical experience working as an RM in the UK
  • Completed preceptorship course if applicable
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with pregnant women with complex medical/social needs
  • Experience in diabetes in pregnancy

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to manage difficult situations effectively.
  • The ability to be flexible
  • Excellent clinical decision making skills
  • Knowledge of obstetric Emergency skills and drills and the ability to perform in an emergency situation
Desirable criteria
  • Involvement in quality improvement projects
  • FSRH letter of competency for contraceptive implant insertion
