The Macmillan Acute Oncology Service is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated permanent Band 6. The successful candidate will be joining one of the largest Acute Oncology Units in the country. Our service is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and provides front-door assessments to patients who experience side effects from cancer or its treatments. This exciting opportunity will help you develop the skills to become a UKONS telephone triage nurse, where you will triage patients over the phone and direct them to the appropriate pathways.

- Provide professional nursing leadership to the team and have excellent communication skills.

- Provide high standards of care for patients, carrying out all aspects of nursing by planning, implementing, and evaluating care.

- Maintain clear and accurate records of observations and treatments, and ensure compliance with UHS policies and standards of the trust.

- Encourage effective working relationships and the development of a cohesive nursing team, working with a common philosophy.

- Stay updated with clinical developments and research findings, initiate changes that benefit the standard of care for patients, and encourage staff to do the same.

- Be skilled in high-level problem solving, organizational skills, and have a positive approach to challenges.

- Take charge of the day-to-day service and coordinate cancer care admissions and inpatient bed flow.

- Be a key member of the MAOS MDT with a common philosophy. Be part of a team dedicated to making a difference for our patients in cancer care.

- Have flexibility in shift patterns.

- Be involved in continuous learning and development with opportunities to attend courses such as the Introduction to Cancer Care, Fundamentals of Cancer Care, and SACT (Systemic Anticancer Treatments).

- Train in and manage the UKONS 24-hour emergency phoneline.

- Hold the staffing bleep for cancer care and be involved in staffing to ensure safe staffing levels.
