We are looking for a Band 5 Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or a Registered Nurse (adult/paediatric) - Learning Disabilities (RNLD), who is dedicated, well organised and passionate about proving an excellent service to children, young people and their families, and would like the to work within a very specialist service.

Please note we encourage applicants from newly qualified nurses/ students due to qualify and will offer a full preceptorship to successful candidates.

The successful applicant will need to have experience of working with children & young people within a mental health setting and we will support you in learning how to carry out assessments & interventions with deaf children.

Our team provides a community service for deaf children and their families across the North of England. We have 3 outreach teams (York, Newcastle & Manchester). This post is with our Newcastle Team and will be expected to travel across the northeast. We are a very passionate team and strive to provide the best possible service we can. We encourage innovation and creativity, reflective thinking and self-development, to continue to retain our ‘Outstanding’ award from the CQC. 

The successful candidate will become a valued member of our multidisciplinary team working with Interpreters, Specialist Deaf Outreach Workers, Administrators, Psychologists, Social Workers, Mental Health Nurses, Consultant Psychiatrists and Managers. The team follow a ‘Working Together’ Model where clinicians work with deaf colleagues and BSL/English interpreters, bringing an unique perspective to each case (deaf -- mental health – interpreting).

You will be provided with an opportunity to learn British Sign Language if no formal qualifications are already held. We also provide yearly appraisals, continual professional development (CPD) away days and adhoc training opportunities as well as line management, clinical and peer supervisions. 

The job involves the post holder to have autonomy so problem-solving skills and self-motivation is essential, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

You will need to be enthusiastic and motivated and bring all your skills, knowledge, and experience as a Mental Health Nurse/Mental Health Social Worker to enable you to carry out assessments and interventions with our deaf children and their families as well as liaise with other professionals. Experience in care planning, managing safeguarding concerns and mental health risk assessment & management is also essential.

  • Has access to own vehicle and also a willingness to travel across the North East of England and occasionally across the North of England.
