Job overview

We are inviting applications to recruit Two substantive full-time consultant positions in the London Neonatal Transfer service. They will be joining a pro-active team with an excellent clinical reputation in providing a high-quality Neonatal Transfer service to the region. The consultant team delivers a high-quality service and use their knowledge and experience to lead and influence further development of the established London Neonatal transport service.


We are looking for applicants who can lead and develop innovative models of care which benefit the infants and their family. We anticipate that the successful applicants to be part of a strong team and complement the team in delivering high quality care to an extremely vulnerable group of patients and their families. 

Main duties of the job

The pan London Neonatal Transfer Service is based at the Royal London providing both emergency and elective transfers within London and the Southeast. Primary duties will include leading the delivery of a high-quality neonatal retrieval service serving over 28 hospitals in the region, participating in service development and training of high functioning multidisciplinary staff. There will also be a responsibility to lead audit, service development and quality improvement

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • CCT in Paediatrics (Neonatology) or equivalent training
  • The applicant should be on the specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT by date of interview
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree in related field
  • Tertiary level Neonatal experience at consultant level

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Wide neonatal experience
  • Advanced clinical skills in neonatal medicine
  • Evidence of leadership skill
  • NLS Provider course
  • Experience of transferring sick and unstable neonates
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Current certificate in APLS, or PALS/ARNI Provider
  • NLS or ARNI Instructor
  • Patient Safety Training (PSIRF)

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of basic management skills
  • Good understanding of the structure and processes of the NHS
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance issues
  • Evidence of involvement in multi-disciplinary audit
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of original work as demonstrated by publications in peer reviewed journals
