We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and innovative Occupational Therapist with highly specialist skills and knowledge in the field of paediatrics to apply and join our small but expanding Paediatric Therapy Service. 

This post will support inpatient neonates and be instrumental in embedding Neonatal Occupational Therapy services within our level 2 unit. They will use highly specialist skills to manage their own complex caseload, working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT). 

Through structured job planning, this role will provide dedicated Occupational Therapy cover to the Neonatal Unit at Queen’s Hospital three days per week. The postholder will additionally provide supervision to B6 Paediatric Occupational Therapist as services expand. The postholder will link closely with the London Neonatal Operational Delivery Network to access additional supervision, peer support and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

•Through a holistic approach, to provide a specialist standard of Occupational Therapy service to neonatal patients and carers, facilitating and maximising patient and carer safety and potential within the service boundaries. 

•To be an integral member of the inter-disciplinary team (IDT) setting patient-centred aims, goals and targets within the comprehensive care packages including referral to community and other hospital settings. 

•To take a lead role as a highly specialised clinician acting as an autonomous practitioner in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of a diverse caseload giving highly specialist guidance and advice to other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) on matters relating to your specialist area. 

•To demonstrate sound knowledge and skills in the management of a diverse range of neonatal conditions. 

•To assist the Band 8a Clinical Lead Therapist in the planning, development, and delivery of the Children’s Occupational Therapy Service at BHRUT.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It’ll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.

  • Evidence of attendance or completion of neonatal specific education
  • Leadership training

Skills/Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Advanced clinical knowledge and skills in paediatric and neonatal fields, with evidence of skills in both acute and community settings.
  • Ability to take an overview of the service, and to initiate and contribute to its development.

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience working in a level 2 Neonatal Unit with premature babies and a wide range of neonatal conditions.
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership and first line management experience.
