Applications are invited for a locum replacement Consultant Cellular Pathologist / Histopathologist post in the Department of Cellular Pathology at Barts Health NHS Trust. The appointment is to provide Histopathology reporting within cardiothoracic and lymphoreticular pathology and non gynaecological cytology for Barts Health and the other hospitals for which we undertake service provision. 

The post is based in the state-of-the-art Pathology and Pharmacy building at the Royal London hospital in Whitechapel. Cellular pathology services are provided along specialist lines. The department provides a high quality service and the appointee will be a full and active member of the team. 

Applicants are required to hold full GMC registration with a licence to practice and to be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

The post holders will be expected to support the relevant specialty lead(s) and the Clinical Lead in the management of the cellular pathology service. The configuration of all the responsibilities will be reviewed from time to time and the post holders will be expected to work with consultant colleagues to provide a reliable and expeditious service, with scope for service development.

 

The rota(s) will be subject to negotiation between colleagues. Should disputes regarding rota(s) arise, the Lead Clinician will mediate.

 

Compliance with the requirements of good clinical governance and national arrangements for medical recertification will be expected.  DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service, formally CRB) checks will be applied.

 

Applicants should be aware that regardless of country of origin, their ability to communicate in written and spoken English to the standard required to carry out the posts will be assessed during the selection process.

Qualifications and knowledge

  • MBBS/MB ChB or equivalent
  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

Experience

  • Thorough and broad training and experience in Histopathology and in Cytopathology
  • Ability to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of medical audit
  • Undertaken audit projects

  • Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching or training

  • Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries
