Have you ever wanted to dip your toe into Radiology Research? 
We are seeking a HCPC-registered, experienced and motivated Radiographer to join our small team of Research Radiographers on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave.  This could be an ideal secondment opportunity allowing you to learn how to embed Radiology research into your clinical practice and take this learning back to your Trust.

About the Role:
You will support cutting-edge medical research by performing high-quality imaging services, working with researchers and clinical teams to ensure accurate and reliable imaging for research studies. 

Key Responsibilities:
Time will be split between the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the Freeman Hospital.  Performing clinical research work across several modalities including plain film, CT, and MRI, whilst also performing administration tasks according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards. The Trust currently participates in a wide range of international, national and local research studies. We can also encourage and support you in your own research activity.

  • Post graduate cross-sectional experience in either CT or MRI, (preferably both) is essential.
  • Working with participants requiring medical imaging as part of a clinical trial or research study.
  • The ideal candidate will have highly developed communication skills, initiative, and be able to work effectively either on their own or as part of the team.
  • The post holder will be expected to follow the research guidelines of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), maintain accurate records and take responsibility for producing medical images of a high standard.
  • Work with a range of imaging equipment throughout the radiology departments of RVI and Freeman sites, some of which is complex, all of which require IT skills, and to be responsible for the safe handling of such.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete administration required for research study.

  • Responsible for delivery and maintenance of an effective, efficient and accurate high-quality MR/ CT/ x-ray imaging and research service.
  • To perform research and clinical MR/ CT scans and x-ray.
  • To provide patient care that meets the needs of patients, volunteers, researchers and referrers. Provide highly specialist imaging knowledge to colleagues and care to the patients undergoing MRI/ CT examinations.
  • To assist the other members of the research team in the day-to-day management of the MR/ CT suite.
  • To be in charge of the MR suite in the absence of the senior physicists.
  • Assist with induction, training and education of other research staff in MR/ CT procedures.
  • Particular emphasis is placed on safety to all personnel (both patients and staff) due to the presence of high strength magnetic fields.

  • MSc or Post Graduate qualification (M level credits) in a clinical speciality, or post graduate specialist short courses or relevant extensive specialist experience, some of which must be in specialist field of practice at senior 1 level
  • HCPC registered
  • BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
  • IV cannulation certified

  • IT qualification e.g. ECDL

Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge of trust policies, professional issues and knowledge of radiation protection regulations IR (ME) R.
  • Extensive knowledge of the guidelines for Magnetic Resonance or Computed Tomography Equipment in Clinical Use as produced by Medical Devices Agency
  • Experience of teaching and training staff
  • Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development

  • Previous experience in managing complex radiographic equipment i.e. in scheduling routine service, managing downtime and be involved in replacement and procurement
