The patient safety team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) are delighted to be able to offer a fantastic opportunity for you to join the team as a Patient Safety Advisor, as a permanent position.
Your role will be fundamental in continuing to ensure a focus on patient safety across the organisation, as well as support the consolidation and delivery of the new patient safety incident response framework (PSRIF), within a supportive environment.

To work as a core member of the patient safety team in supporting and delivering the national and local patient safety agendas and the patient safety incident response framework.
Key to this role is the provision of expert support, advice, guidance and instruction on patient safety elements to an assigned division in delivering the Trust’s comprehensive safety agenda.
This includes:
• Delivering a robust process for the management of incidents, ensuring as required that they are reviewed, investigated and that local and or organisational learning occurs as a result
• Actively engaging in the proactive facilitation of the patient safety workstreams including the patient safety incident framework
• Promoting an open, honest and just culture
• Assisting with the delivery of patient safety core standards by the Care and Quality Commission (CQC)
• Assisting with the coronial process as required

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Registered Nurse / Midwife / AHP on appropriate register
- Management / Leadership training or equivalent experience
- Experience of delivering presentations to groups
- Experience of patient safety focussed teaching
- Ability to analyse and interpret complex data to formulate reports
- Using clinical knowledge and patient safety experience to determine when investigations need to be undertaken
- Experience of decision making and prioritising in an acute healthcare setting
- Understands the professional and ethical issues involved in providing health care
