A post has become available within the department of Pain Medicine to start on 1st March 2025

This is a six month post CCT fellow post in pain medicine and neuromodulation, based at Bart’s & The Royal London Hospitals. The post holder will be an employee of Barts Health and there may be future opportunities or requirements to work at one of the other hospitals in the Barts Health group.

This post would be suitable for a senior trainee (about to finish the training) or post CCT fellow to enhance their clinical experience and publications particularly in chronic pain and neuromodulation. The appointee must be able to work flexibly and be able to cover the service commitments provided for at Barts & The Royal London Hospitals. The post holder will have a mix of solo and supervised sessions to allow & gain confidence and develop clinical skills in the speciality. The post holder would participate in MDT clinics and gain clinical experience.

This post has NO ON call commitment. 

Applicants should possess full GMC registration, and either be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.

Main duties of the job

The department would expect the fellow to work flexibly. However, the department will try to help the fellow to develop and maintain areas of clinical expertise with some regular clinical commitments.

The JD will be flexible and allow the appointee to gain clinical skills and independence in pain medicine and neuromodulation. This would be a mixture of solo and accompanied sessions pending the competencies.

Qualifications & Clinical Skills

Essential criteria
  • GMC Registration
  • CCT in anaesthesia or, if in training, within 6 months of CCT
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • 12 months experience in pain medicine
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of UK Healthcare system
  • FFPMRCA

Knowledge & Specialist Clinical Expertise

Essential criteria
  • Wide experience in aspects of pain medicine: outpatient & inpatient
  • Competent in simple interventional techniques
  • Experience in the perioperative care of patients including pain management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of multidisciplinary pain team working

Training Expected & Management Experience

Essential criteria
  • Involvement in teaching undergraduates, junior medical staff, nurses and allied health professionals
Desirable criteria
  • ATLS, ALS, APLS or PALS instructor status
  • Certificate of education
  • Evidence of training in teaching skills
  • Involvement in undergraduate education
