Fundamentals Fellow in Emergency Medicine Based at Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran, South East Wales
Duration: Fixed Term 6 months initially
Anticipated Start Date: February 2025
These 6 month posts are an innovation by the Emergency Medicine team at the Grange University Hospital. Previous post holders have used the roles to gather experience prior to successful applications for specialty training in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics or others. A number of past appointees have sought to extend their posts, having found the roles both enjoyable and educational.
This position involves Regulated Activity with children and adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer.
Enhanced check with barred list information, including an adults and children’s barred list check
Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.

Main duties of the job
These Fundamentals fellows in EM offer clinical experience in a busy and well supported new Emergency Department with 20% allocated time off the ED clinical rota for fundamental development in a number of innovative areas, including pre-hospital medicine with our physician response unit, Resus skills and Development, Teaching, Radiology and Simulation.
They would particularly suit those who have passed their FY2 (or equivalent) competencies and have sound background knowledge of medicine, but may be undecided about their career pathway and/or would like to take time out of formal training. Within a supportive and professional team and environment, Clinical Fellows experience a very broad spectrum of clinical experience and a collaborative interface with wider associated specialties, aiming always to work together to provide an excellent patient experience.
The Clinical Fellow are afforded the same training opportunities as our training posts, with access to in house training – this includes protected monthly consultant led teaching days. Study leave is encouraged and the appointees will have the opportunity to perform an audit cycle and take part in case presentations.
Clinical Fellows (CF) in Emergency Medicine assume the responsibilities normally associated with junior grade (SHO level) appointment in Emergency Department (ED), and have access to a full range of IT facilities within the department.
