JOB PURPOSE
To assist in providing a professional, high quality digital photographic imaging and
video service to the Trust(s) for clinical, teaching, medico-legal and non-clinical
purposes.
JOB SUMMARY
Provide a professional high quality digital photographic imaging service to the Trust
for clinical records, teaching, medico legal and non-clinical purposes.
Maintain an efficient workflow in the department, using initiative and selfmanagement when necessary.
Work with the Medical Illustration Manager and other department staff to continually
develop and improve the service provided
Main duties of the job
KEY RESULT AREAS/MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To undertake all clinical photography required by the Trust, either in the
Medical Illustration Department, clinics on the wards or in the operating
theatres, mortuary and other locations within and outside the Hospital.
• To undertake a range of complex diagnostic photography e.g. ophthalmic
photographic service to the Eye Clinic (OCTs and FFA photography).
• Ensure photographic equipment is maintained and that proper records are
kept of all photographic activities.
• To assist with the routine operation of the departments management
database and contribute to its further development.
• To plan work and liaise with the clinical photography staff to meet client
deadlines.
• Maintain accurate department and patient records.
• Ensure cost effective use of all the Trusts materials and resources.
• To implement patient confidentiality and DPA (Data Protection Act) protocols
as per the Trust policy.
• To undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the post
as directed by the Medical Illustration Manager.
• Maintain registration with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) and as
a requirement of registration, keep and update a Continuing Professional
Development (CPD) portfolio

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Advert for part time (20 hours per week) Clinical Photographer
An enthusiastic and committed Clinical Photographer is required to join a busy team
supplying a Medical Illustration service to The Royal Surrey County Hospital.
We provide a wide range of photography and video services to all clinical specialties
including [but not limited to]: orthodontics and maxillo facial, dermatology, ophthalmology,
ward photography and ENT.
As a clinical photographer you will be providing a professional high quality digital photographic
imaging service to the Trust for clinical records, teaching, medico legal and non-clinical
purposes. Applicants will have a minimum of 3 months experience post qualification in
medical photography, although newly qualified and experienced photographers may also be
considered. You will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to work innovatively and
without supervision and as well as having good organizational skills have the following:-
• BSc in Medical Illustration or equivalent
• An outstanding current portfolio
• Excellent Photoshop and IT skills
• Excellent communication skills

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Photographic qualification to degree level or equivalent level of experience. GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths grade C
Desirable criteria
- Hold a post graduate qualification in medical photography
- Membership of the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI)
- Maintain registration with Academy for Healthcare Science
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Background in electronic (digital) photography and imaging
- Good knowledge of legislation covering patient confidentiality and data protection
Desirable criteria
- Experience of video filming and editing

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
