Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled Specialist Safeguarding Practitioner to join the Safeguarding Children and Adult’s Team within Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCFT).  
  
The post will based at Daisyfield Mill, Blackburn, acting as a point of contact for the Bay and Fylde Coast however, there is an expectation that staff would be able to travel to other LSCFT bases as required.  

The main remit of this post will be to provide safeguarding input within services in the Bay and Fylde Coast area and we are looking for a nurse with experience of working with safeguarding issues in their current role.

Working within a multi-professional / agency context the successful applicant will provide expert training, supervision and advice to health and social care practitioners on a wide range of safeguarding issues that impact on children, young people, adults and their families.  The role will be underpinned by a sound knowledge of the legal frameworks that shape the safeguarding agenda including The Children Act (1989; 2004), The Care Act (2014), The Mental Health Act (1983) and The Mental Capacity Act (2005).  

Safeguarding is integral to governance arrangements within LSCFT and we are looking for someone with leadership experience and a track record in providing high standards of care to the most vulnerable children and adults in our society.  

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will support the development of single and multi-agency, safeguarding policies, procedures and clinical practice, ensuring practice is current and up to date in line with local and national priorities.  The applicant will be required to support organisational safeguarding arrangements, contribute to the trust’s quality and assurance framework and support the team in fulfilling statutory safeguarding duties outlined by the Think Family Safeguarding Agenda.

The post holder will work closely with the Named Nurses and Named Professionals for Safeguarding Children, Adults and MCA to ensure appropriate quality assurance mechanisms are in place and to assist in the development of skills and competencies of the LSCFT workforce.

Safeguarding is a valued and integral part of multi-disciplinary working across the Trust and the post involves opportunities to contribute to wider practice development and initiatives in line with a new locality model and Integrated Care Partnerships (ICP). The scope of the post will include the development of effective inter-disciplinary and inter-agency communication and relationships to improve outcomes for vulnerable children, families and adults.

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC/Social work England/HCPC Registration
  • 1st Level degree or similar

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of national policy/research and legislation relating to safeguarding children and adults and inclusive of MCA/DoLs agenda
  • Demonstrates an awareness of the complex issues when working across organisations and disciplines and understands key elements of change management
  • Knowledge and understanding of change process and organisational dynamics within changing environments

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial post qualifying work experience, Clinical experience relating to safeguarding/MCA (Currency in the past 12 months)
  • Experience of line management/Clinical supervision as a supervisor/supporting professional development
  • Involvement and experience of developing and using audit tools

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Prioritise, plan and evaluate own and others’ workload
  • Support and challenge traditional views, work practices and cultures in a credible, non-threatening way
