Sister/Charge Nurse – Renal – Substantive & Fixed Term posts

We have an exciting opportunity for 2 committed, motivated and clinically expert renal nurses to apply for Band 6 posts on John Humphrey Ward (inpatient) and the Renal Planned investigations unit (day case – nurse led). This is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills in a more senior role.

The Imperial College Renal and Transplant Centre opened at the Hammersmith Hospital in November 2005 and has become one of the largest facility of its kind in Europe. We have 4 inpatient wards totalling 71 beds (12 HDU) and a planned investigation unit offering a ward attender/day case service with 18 beds. The service also has an acute haemodialysis unit, 9 satellite dialysis units, peritoneal dialysis and home haemodialysis teams; nurse led chronic kidney disease team, Live Donor Team, a rapid assessment unit and 2 outpatient clinics looking after over 3,100 patients on renal replacement therapy.

We care for a variety of renal patients with complex medical and surgical needs. These posts are pivotal in providing visible nursing leadership within a multi-professional team. The post holder must be a good team leader who is willing to assist and deputise for the Ward Manager when required. You will need to have excellent communication and negotiation skills as you will be working in collaboration with the wider MDT. The post holder must have a minimum of 2 years experience within a renal setting, and will have a post registration Renal Course and Student Assessor qualification.

The post holder must have the ability to motivate the team to provide high quality patient care. As part of the dedicated nursing team the Sister/Charge Nurse will be expected to support staff by assessing care needs and evaluate acuity on every shift. As a role model you will be encouraged to empower staff, participate in innovative ideas using evidence based nursing practice. We are committed to your committed professional development, we have a dedicated team of Renal Educators who will not only support you in developing your role but also ensure that you have access to the appropriate training and education opportunities.

The successful candidate is therefore expected to be flexible and able to work a variety of shift patterns to accommodate the service needs.
