Mental Health Support Worker

Band 3

The role of the Mental Health Support Worker (Band 3) within a crisis resolution and home treatment is about helping service user who are under the service or those who are contacting the service for the first time.

The ideal candidate will be a caring, responsive, empathic person who can provide support and reassurance to service users who contact service.

This role will enable to candidate to gain experience interacting with service users with both common and complex clinical presentations. The ideal candidate will have an opportunity to further develop their knowledge of mental health care and develop their skills when working with service users undergoing a mental health crisis. CRHTT East is a very flexible and supportive place to work.  

Successful candidates will be expected to work office hours.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • The post holder will work as part of a team of nurses, doctors, support workers, social workers, administrative staff.  

  • The post holder will be involved in the delivery of care for patients in a mental health crisis either by face to face visits or over the phone 

  • The post holder will provide emotional support for individual in distress and support the team in carrying out risk assessment and risk management plans for the patients

The “must haves” for this role: 

  • Experience working in an acute mental health setting or have a psychology degree 
  • Be caring and have empathy towards people going through a mental health crisis  
  • A clean, valid driving license and access to a car  
  • Ability to work as a team and have a flexible approach

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of care related procedures and practices
  • Basic level of healthcare knowledge, clinical observations and the Mental Health Act
  • Good interpersonal, communication, observation and reporting skills
  • Able to empathise, be supportive and sensitive to the needs of others as well as being able to cope with distressing circumstances
  • Ability to use a practical problem solving approach in everyday situations
  • Basic IT skills and the ability to navigate around various systems and software packages (such as outlook, databases, MS office and the internet)
  • Able to work flexibly on a shift pattern as required and the ability to travel independently between locations to fulfil the requirements of the position
