Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Foot Protection Lead Podiatrist, 0.5 wte (18.75 hours) to give a high level of clinical support to our Podiatry team. Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Podiatry Service offers care to patients at risk who suffer from metabolic, vascular or neurological disorders resulting in acute and chronic wounds to their feet.  

The Postholder will have clinical expertise in musculoskeletal, dermatological, neurological and vascular pathologies in relation to the provision of wound care, as well as managing patients who are considered high risk as a result of chronic disease e.g. diabetes, rheumatology and peripheral arterial disease. You will be providing treatment, advice and wound management and be able to work as part of a team, coordinating the delivery of care to ensure patients have a high standard of care.  

You will be an experienced practitioner aware of the full scope of clinical practice and expected to support and supervise colleagues and teammembers. The post holder must be highly motivated, able to work independently and show initiative in managing both the clinical caseload andcontributing to staff education and service development. 

Main duties of the job

  • To act as a source of clinical expertise working as part of a multidisciplinary team in partnership with the podiatric acute services. 

  • To take part in the strategic development of podiatry service in relation to wound care provision. 

  • To provide highly specialised diagnostic assessment, treatment and advice, and wound management in order to maintain patient’s mobility, independence and prevent disability. 

  • To take a lead role in monitoring and reviewing the delivery of services for patients with wounds under the operational management of the Podiatry Team Leader and advisement of the Podiatry Clinical Lead and Podiatry Service Manager.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The 3/4 “must haves” for you to be considered for this role:  

Degree level qualification in podiatry (or equivalent) & Registration with the HCPC as a podiatrist 

Local anaesthetic certificate 

Car driver & possess full UK driver’s license or evidence of ability to travel to designated base & other sites; ability to travel independently between multiple sites to fulfil the requirements of the position

Essential criteria
  • HPC Registered Podiatrist (DPodM or BSc)
  • Local Anaesthetic Certificate
  • Registered with SOCAP
  • Post-graduate education / qualification in Podiatry
  • IT Training
  • Motivational interview training
Desirable criteria
  • Independent Prescriber

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 3 years’ experience at a senior level
  • Experience of leading and managing staff
  • Experienced in the provision of high risk treatments and diabetic assessments
  • Working independently as a team member

  • Awareness of current NHS trends and policies, including clinical governance and NSF’s
