Children's Specialist Physiotherapist
Department: Children's Physiotherapy
Band 6 (Band 5-6 development role will be considered),
£29,970 - £44,962 per annum pro rata
Hours: Part-time 30 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
The Therapy team at MKUH are looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 Physiotherapist to join the team. Although the preference is for a band 6, the post will also be considered as a development role facilitating progression from band 5 to band 6 through an intensive period of development & support. For the development role, candidates should have completed some post registration clinical practice & have gained some core experiential learning in Respiratory Medicine OR Critical Care OR Respiratory On-Call Working, Acute Medicine OR Older Peoples Medicine and Musculoskeletal Outpatients OR Trauma & Orthopaedics
We would consider candidates who have not completed these domains if you are able to evidence a high level of critical thinking, self-awareness, leadership capabilities & self-directed learning. Experience in paediatrics is not necessary but desired.

Clinicians appointed will work in a vacant band 6 position but remain in a band 5 tier whilst commencing their development programme. Movement into the band 6 position will occur at the earliest opportunity once competencies & objectives have been met to allow safe practice. We anticipate that successful candidates will move to a band 6 pay-point within 4-8 months depending on experience & development opportunities.
The team delivers physiotherapy services to children & young people aged 0-19 years within acute & community settings. There will be opportunities to work in the children's outpatients with both musculoskeletal & neuro-disability caseloads, the children's inpatient ward, Redway School & hydrotherapy. We have re-establishing 12 month band 6 rotations within the department to allow experience in these different areas. You will involve working in the department based in Stony Stratford Health Centre, MKUH site & Redway School.
- To provide high quality evidence-based assessment and treatment of children and young people aged 0-19 presenting a range of conditions.
- To hold responsibility for own caseload and assist other team members with theirs as required.
- To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- To undertake evidence-based audit and quality improvement projects to further own and the teams clinical practice as required.
- Make recommendations to the Lead Physiotherapist for changes to practice by the team as appropriate.

Clinical:
- To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management, and support more junior staff to do likewise.
- To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation.
Professional:
- To maintain own continuing professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments and incorporate them as necessary into your work.
- Contribute to the training, assessment and performance management of newly qualified physiotherapists and physiotherapy clinical support staff.
Organisational:
- To be responsible for the supervision and coordination of junior staff, students, and assistants on a daily basis, in conjunction with the Lead Physiotherapists.
- To ensure that your own practice and that of staff under your supervision meet the required professional standards of physiotherapy practice.
