Job overview

This is a key role within the Trust with 24-hour responsibility for the management of the ward. The post holder will be responsible for leading, encouraging and directing innovation to promote evidence based nursing practice within the ward.

Main duties of the job

 

The post holder will deliver patient care on a daily basis. They should be expert in all areas of nursing care from patient’s admission to discharge, which facilitates clinical practice development. They have overall responsibility for day-to-day management of their clinical area and for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures maintaining associated records. They will manage, support and lead a team of nurses in the delivery of evidence based patient centered care, which is of a high standard. They will manage unit staff including appraisal, rota’s, recruitment and selection and the supervision of learners. They will provide specialist advice to patients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team. Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources. They will lead the ward through the achieving excellence program and be a pivotal role model within their specialty upholding the trusts values and behaviours at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Are you a dynamic and motivated registered nurse with at least 2 years of acute ward experience, who has a passion for delivering exceptional care and is ready to take the next step in your professional development?

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Bramshott Ward specialising in Trauma and Orthopaedics, for an experienced and driven nurse to join our team as ward manager. This role offers the chance to make a real impact on patient care and service delivery whilst developing your leadership and management skills.

In this dynamic role, you will lead, motivate, and support the nursing team to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care in the acute ward setting, whilst being a champion to the delivery of excellent patient experience. You will manage both planned elective cases and emergency trauma admissions, ensuring high quality pre-operative and post-operative care.

 

You will play a key part in supporting the team’s growth, problem-solving, implementing change, and being a role model for your colleagues. You will be expected to build strong links with the multidisciplinary team to enhance patient care and support effective collaboration, whilst displaying excellent interpersonal skills and upholding the trust’s values and high standards of professionalism.

 

You will be supported in this post by the Surgical Matron and the Associate Director of Nursing for surgery to help you succeed in your role. And you will have access to excellent learning and developmental opportunities to support your professional growth.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Part 1 or 12
  • Recent post qualification or equivalent experience in acute setting
  • Demonstrates professional updating of knowledge in past one/two years
  • Teaching qualification ENB998 or City & Guilds 730 or equivalent
  • First degree or working towards
Desirable criteria
  • D32/33 [A1] Award

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience at Band 6 or above within acute hospital setting
  • Can demonstrate up-to-date clinical creditability/competence
  • Evidence of advanced skills in practice i.e. IV additives
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management
  • Knowledge of current NHS and Professional issues
  • Evidence of achievements in practice development and quality improvement projects
  • Evidence of research based practice
  • Evidence of changing practice and project management
  • Proven record of managing staff and resources
