We are currently expanding our Consultant Geriatrician team, which you could be part of!
This is a great opportunity for consultants who hold a CCT to start immediately with a view to becoming substantive. We will also welcome applications from non-CCT holders and we will provide the opportunity of support with your CESR application or other educational requirements.
The Trust recognises the importance of a healthy work/life balance which is tailored to individual depending on their specific needs at a given time. We welcome applications from candidates who would like to work flexibly and would discuss with an individual how best to marry their needs with the needs of the department
We are one of the largest Acute trusts in the UK with specialist services in Acute frailty, virtual ward, falls, dementia and orthogeriatrics. As part of an investment to improve and develop our geriatric/ frailty facilities within the Trust, we are looking for enthusiastic innovative professionals to be part of the journey to lead and shape our team, so we can succeed in becoming one of the best Geriatric units in the country.

Locum Consultant in Geriatrics and Stroke Medicine
The post holder will contribute to the development of the Frailty Service establishing an effective multi-disciplinary team to provide early comprehensive geriatric assessment and management to meet the needs of frail older patients at BHRUT.
The post holder will build on the existing good relationships with primary and community care services so that frail, older people have risk factors identified and can be signposted to services that will support them to maintain their independence as close to home as possible and reduce the incidence of further crisis. The job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week, consisting of 8.5 DCC + 1.5 SPA. The post-holder will participate in:
- Stroke on-call rota 1:8
- HASU rota 1:8 including 1:8 weekend cover (in line with existing frequency in Geriatric Medicine also)
- An overnight on call Older Person’s medical rota.

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.
We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.
Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.
These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.
The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
