Job overview
The Northwest Ambulance Service (NWAS) is expanding its clinical workforce by introducing a new Advanced Practitioner role open to suitably experienced Nurses and Paramedics.
The post provides an exciting opportunity for motivated Paramedics and Nurses to be involved in the Trusts new delivery model. Rotating between the Clinical Hub providing telephone triage to NWAS patients and responding from designated NWAS sites to patients who have the potential to be treated at home. You will be responding in a non-emergency vehicle.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an experienced Paramedic or Nurse, who acting within their professional boundaries, will provide enhanced clinical decision making to support pathways of care to lower acuity patients both through telephone consultation and face to face assessment. You will ensure the delivery of excellent patient care through the continuous achievement of high clinical standards. You will work autonomously and support patients within our community. You will be expected to undertake relevant research and development activities and to support underpinning knowledge. Opportunity to achieve a Level 7 Advanced Clinical Practice module will be provided if you do not already hold this qualification. You will also provide guidance and mentorship to peers within your role.

Working for our organisation
North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.
Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.
Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.
We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Objective structured clinical exam will take place the week commencing 21 April 25, successful candidates will then be invited to interview the week commencing 28 April 25.
The objective structured clinical examination will be based upon one system picked by the candidate at random. Further reading is advised from online resources or texts on clinical examination.

Person specification
Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
- Registered Paramedic with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) or Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (UK).
- DipHE/FDg in Nursing (Nurse applicants).
- DipHE/FDg in Paramedic Sciences or equivalent healthcare qualification (Paramedic applicants).
- Level 7 (or working towards) in Health Assessment
- BSc in Nursing or Paramedic Sciences or other relevant healthcare qualification (or working towards).
Skills, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience in a substantive pre-hospital, Emergency Department or Primary Care role with evidence of credible experience to the role specification.
- Expert knowledge of pre-hospital care & urgent care systems with the ability to demonstrate credibility.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Evidence of leadership ability
- Evidence of relevant CPD.
- Evidence of Teaching / Training Staff
- Appreciation of national standards and national policy in relation to Ambulance Services.
- Ability to effectively work as part of a team
- Ability to work collaboratively with other health professionals across a variety of settings and environments.
- Understanding of the commissioning process leading to service development within the NHS.
Personal Attributes
Essential criteria
- Required to use a VDU for periods during the working day.
- Able to concentrate for extended periods during repeated assessments and telephone consultation with patients
- Able to rotate between Contact Centre and Operational practice settings to provide supervision and mentoring to clinicians.
- Frequently required to deal with patients experiencing the effects of both short and long-term chronic disease, including the communication of unwelcome news.
- Enhanced dexterity, co-ordination and palpatory senses for clinical assessment and physical treatment of patients in operational practice
- Full valid EU driving licence.
- Computer literacy skills and capable of operating a computer using Microsoft and other software programs.
- Flexibility on working hours and location
