Job overview

The Christie Education Teams deliver a range of services from Clinical Skills Training, Medical and Non-Medical Education Teaching (from work experience, through to Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Consultants), developing and delivering on-line training and managing National and International Conferences and Courses.  Our teams also work closely with Service and Clinical Leads to look at the workforce and development needs of all Services across the Trust. The Medical Education Fellow post will be an integral part of the Postgraduate and Undergraduate Education Team within Christie Education and you will work closely with our Administration and Faculty.  The post is for 40 hours per week and is 80% Education and a minimum 20% Clinical.

The main purpose of the post is to develop accessible multi professional learning programs in Undergraduate Education within the trust. It is further intended that the post-holder will also be involved in other educational activities within Christie Education. The exact nature of such involvement can be discussed and developed based on the post-holders’ own interests and prior experience.  It is likely to include a combination of ward-based and clinic sessions within oncology/palliative care

Main duties of the job

1. EDUCATION (80%)

Clinical Fellows in Education will have the opportunity and the expectation to be directly involved in face-to-face teaching.

2.  CLINICAL (20%)

The Clinical service work and training will be discussed and developed based on the post-holders’ own interests and prior experience. It is likely to include a combination of ward-based and clinic sessions within oncology/palliative care.

3.  RESEARCH AND AUDIT

Post holders will be encouraged to undertake a piece of audit/research during their tenure. Similarly, they will be encouraged to engage in in-house clinical governance projects to improve patient management/experience and/or optimize patient pathways.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Here at The Christie, we provide learning placement opportunities for Diagnostic Radiography, Dietetic, Medical, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, ODP, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Therapeutic Radiography Students.

 

The appointee will be based at The Christie and will provide input to medical student teaching, with opportunities for research and to develop and enhance your working relationships, with scope for academic progression in the field of Clinical Education.

Role Planning

The weekly job plan is likely to be variable based on educational activity. An example of a possible week is given below. The post will include a minimum of 20% clinical activity on an annualised basis. Please note that this post is not recognised for training. Cross cover may be required for teaching the Year 3 and Year 5 medical students.
