The Workforce & Employee Relations Advisor will work within a dedicated specialist team providing Employee Relations (ER) services and reporting to a Head of Workforce and Employee Relations. This role involves delivering high volume ER case work ensuring consistency and quality is maintained, whilst working in partnership with the wider Workforce team and Managers to meet targets and achieve organisational objectives. The Workforce & Employee Relations Advisor should be skilled in ER and confident in managing a case load primarily made up of Disciplinary and Grievance Investigations and Hearings autonomously, in line with the Trust KPI’s. All advisors provide advice and support at formal meetings and hearings (either in person or remote) and participate in delivering training and development seminars.

Manage a case load of varying ER cases (primarily disciplinary and grievance investigations and hearings) end to end including:
Ensuring detailed investigations are concluded objectively obtaining the necessary evidence to make an informed decision on the next steps by undertaking these independently or providing HR support to Managers.
Taking the role of HR support on hearing panels providing advice on sanctions (including gross misconduct) with a consideration of risk and challenging managers’ decision, where required, to reach the correct outcome for the organisation.
Working within agreed timeframes, while providing a high quality service.
Provide general HR advice, guidance and support to all managers on ER queries including but not limited to the interpretation of policies and procedures, terms and conditions, risk and employment issues such as discipline, capability, grievance and absence management.
Produce high quality reports following investigations, statements of case for formal hearings and outcome letters following any formal meetings.
Undertake all necessary case administration to a high standard, record information accurately, and keep case management system updated.

Education and Qualification

- Educated to degree level or equivalent knowledge of a range of Workforce related topics.
- Hold a CIPD (or equivalent) qualification, or be working toward this qualification

- Previous experience working in the NHS or a unionised environment;
Knowledge and Experience

- Workforce knowledge, including current Employment and Data Protection legislation.
- Up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practice, with the ability to implement innovative and practical solutions
- Ability to support and advise managers in disciplinary and grievance investigations and hearings including planning, preparation, organising and administration.
- Experience of successfully building effective relationships and networks, including within the Workforce profession and with trade unions/staff side organisations.
- Evidence of continual professional development.
- Experience of working effectively within a highly unionised environment.

- Ability to objectively weigh up evidence and reach well reasoned conclusions
- An excellent standard of written work and ability to confidently write outcome letters and reports;
- Ability to work autonomously while using initiative to handle constantly changing priorities and tight deadlines;
- Good range of IT skills, including Microsoft® Outlook™, Word™ and Excel™;
- Excellent organisational skills
