Paediatric Learning Disability and Autism Nurse Specialist

We are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity for recruitment into the post of paediatric learning disability and autism nurse specialist within the children's hospital at UHS. You will be responsible for supporting the coordination of planned/acute admissions and outpatient appointments for paediatric patients with learning disabilities and/or autistic spectrum conditions accessing services within UHS, ensuring identification and facilitation of reasonable adjustments and appropriate and effective support for patients, their families/carers as well as UHS colleagues and clinical areas.

Responsibilities:
- As well as supporting the co-ordination of planned and acute admissions you will also be able to support transition processes for young people with learning disabilities and/or autistic spectrum conditions whose health conditions will extend into their adult life and subsequently require ongoing support from adult health services within UHS.
- You will support the wider Learning Disability and Autism CNS's in monitoring, recording and auditing service needs.
- You will provide and share professional advice and expertise to this and other Trusts, as appropriate through development, monitoring and encouragement of good communication and information sharing, formal and informal teaching and the development of links with other agencies, both internal and external to the trust.
- You will support inpatient processes, including but not limited to; 1:1 support & role modelling on wards/in clinical areas for children who require a skilled, high level of input due to their clinical needs, risks and or behaviours/presentation and supporting families by identifying & supporting reasonable adjustments & practical support arrangements, identification, referral or escalation to appropriate internal and external stakeholders, including advocacy services, genetic counselling services, palliation & bereavement services and liaison/engagement with community health and social care services.

- Registered Adult/Children’s/Learning Disability Nurse on NMC live register
Evidence of continued professional development
- Evidence of post registration qualification or equivalent experience in related work area, to demonstrate advanced level of practice
-Experience working with children with learning disabilities/autism
-Motivated & passionate about caring for children with learning disabilities and/or autistic spectrum conditions.
