Department: Breast Imaging

Band 3 - £24,625 - £25,674 per annum pro rata

Fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave until 20.03.2026

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week (Monday: 0800-1700, Tuesday: 0900-1730, Wednesday: 0830-1630, Thursday: 0900-1630, Friday: 0800-1630), all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

The Breast Imaging department is part of the diagnostic imaging team at MKUH and provides the National Breast Screening (NHSBSP) and symptomatic imaging service for the population of Milton Keynes. 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual to join our breast imaging team as a Breast Imaging Assistant.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will collaborate and communicate with the breast team in a wide range of clinical and clerical procedures as you support and contribute to each patient journey.

  • To work as part of the Breast Care Unit multidisciplinary team providing a screening and symptomatic service to the population of Milton Keynes.
  • To assist the Radiographic, Radiological and Clerical staff in a wide range of clinical, technical, and clerical procedures undertaken within the Breast Imaging Department of Milton Keynes Hospital.
  • Follow departmental systems of work when undertaking clinical and clerical tasks.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

General: 

  • To support the service lead in the delivery of breast imaging which is safe, effective and patient friendly for patients referred to the Trust screening and symptomatic services.

Clerical: 

 

  • Deliver and collect images, case notes, letters, reports, specimens etc. to/from Wards, Film Library and Clinics from MKUH and the Mobile Screening Van if required.

Technical: 

  • Check and collate images for reporting and complete necessary paperwork for NHSBSP. This will involve using the PACS system to retrieve images and ensure that all anatomical markers are correct and that any previous images are available.

Clinical: 

  • Set up the ultrasound room for each clinic. Lay the clinical trolley for any biopsy or vacuum procedure.
