The appointee will work within Northumberland CYPS, covering the West of the county. This role will primarily lead on mental health but would also have some scope to work within neurodevelopmental and even some LD work. The role involves supporting the team with formulating presentations of young people with moderate to severe mental health difficulties, and overseeing their treatment. We have a rich and varied multidisciplinary team including specialty doctors and nurse prescribers who work closely together enabling young people to attain positive mental health outcomes.
The appointee would also work within EIP, joining the weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, as well as leading on cases, predominantly of people under the age of 18 presenting with psychosis. The role involves supporting an existing psychiatrist and the rest of the team in North Tyneside.

For CYPS the appointee will:
- Offer clinical case supervision to the MDT and either one of the specialty doctors or one of our 3 NMPs and will be based at St George’s Park in Morpeth, with outreach clinics around Northumberland (localities covered are shared out amongst colleagues so travel across the county is mitigated).
- Assess and devise appropriate multidisciplinary treatment programmes for referrals aged 0 to 18 years, and implement the same.
- Join the team in the multi-disciplinary assessment and management of cases referred to the Neurodevelopmental Network, or other Networks/Teams within Northumberland CYPS.
- Provide medical input, including physical examinations where appropriate, for children referred to the team
- Perform patient related administration in accordance with Team/Service and Trust policies and clinical governance directives
- Liaise with professionals who work at tier 1 and 2 levels, including colleagues in community child health, primary care teams, social services and education
- Be actively involved in team development including teaching other disciplines.
- Have access to continuing medical education and supervision as part of a consultant peer group and be part of the process of annual appraisal and revalidation.
For EIP Programmed Activities allocated to direct clinical care, to include:
- Regular planned out-patient clinics.
- Complex case discussions where patients vulnerable to or in crisis are discussed.
- Multidisciplinary Team Meetings
- Support to and supervision of trainees, and NMPs
- Liaison with Consultants from inpatient wards and other mental health teams
- Administration to support these clinical activities
- On call duties and emergency work

Qualifications and Training

- MBBS (or equivalent)
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
- Included on GMC Specialist Register in Psychiatry or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT
- Completed accredited training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Approved Clinician Status

- Another post-graduate qualification (other than MRCPsych) in a field related to psychiatry, ethics or criminal law
