Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced and qualified Echocardiographer to join our team. The successful candidate must be BSE accredited and competent to issue independent echo reports, providing teaching for medical and physiologist staff. You will have BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent,  registration and ILS / ALS.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Completion of MSc Scientist Training Programme (STP) or equivalent (e.g. BSc in Clinical Physiology or HTEC MPPM with SCST Parts I and II)
  • Relevant Masters Degree or equivalent – Certified Echocardiographer, holding current British Society of Echocardiography accreditation
  • Registered with RCCP
  • ILS
Desirable criteria
  • ALS
  • Training or Leadership Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of autonomous scanning and reporting of Echocardiograms post qualification
  • Able to utilise specialist and technical knowledge of cardiac ultrasound in line with evidence based practice
  • Able to utilise specialist and technical knowledge of a range of cardiac ultrasound machines / reporting systems
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner within echocardiography

Knowledge and skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to perform a broad range of cardiological techniques employed within the department
  • Ability to utilise wide, thorough and up-to-date specialist postgraduate level knowledge across the full range of cardiac physiology investigations including advanced techniques such as Stress echocardiography and Tissue Doppler
Desirable criteria
  • Be highly specialised in a full range of echocardiography procedures, including stress echocardiography, contrast or TOE
  • Ability to speak Welsh

  • Deal with unwell patients who may be terminally ill and/or in a great deal of discomfort in a sympathetic and understanding manner
