Job overview

We are looking for a highly engaging individual to join our friendly, dynamic and progressive Infection Prevention and Control Team and the wider organisation at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board on our journey to achieve zero tolerance towards avoidable infection.

You must be a registered health care professional and having worked within a proactive infection prevention team be able to demonstrate passion for ensuring the highest standards in infection prevention. You will act as an inspirational role model to preserve patient safety and share your knowledge and experiences to develop junior staff within the team.

As the Infection Prevention Nurse  you will be responsible for supporting the leadership and management of the Infection Prevention Service for Primary and Secondary care across the health economy, whilst also promoting and sustaining the HABITS Campaign.

Excellent interpersonal skills are essential to this role, as you will be working closely with your Infection Prevention Sister/Charge Nurse  across many disciplines both in the acute and community settings providing expertise on infection prevention issues, whilst also promoting and sustain the HABITS Campaign.

Main duties of the job

You will act as an inspirational role model to preserve patient safety and share your knowledge and experiences across the multiple disciplinary team within the West Region.

As the Infection Prevention Nurse , you will be responsible for supporting the delivery  of the Infection Prevention Service for Primary and Secondary care across the health economy, whilst also promoting and sustaining the HABITS campaign.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse, on live register
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree, or evidence of working toward
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership development/course
  • Post-graduate qualification/module in infection prevention and control

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience within acute healthcare, and ability to relate that experience to support staff in practice
  • Experience of performing audits in practice and using audit results to improve care for patients in the practice setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of infection surveillance programmes, including data collection methodologies
  • Experience of professional leadership in the clinical setting

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills. Able to positively challenge teams & individuals
  • Able to work with the multi-disciplinary professional team to negotiate and agree programmes of work
Desirable criteria
  • Recent evidence of change management in practice
  • Experience of effective policy implementation

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates specialist knowledge commensurate with the role across the spectrum of infection prevention activity, in line with the Welsh Government endorsed Infection Prevention Society competences
