Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Mortuary and Bereavement Services Team in BCUHB. The position provides important support to a busy department and is both challenging and rewarding.
Based at the Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor you will be responsible for providing the bereavement service. This advert is for a part time position to work Monday and Tuesday 08:00-16:00.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for assisting in the provision of the Mortuary and Bereavement Services. This service includes liaising compassionately and professionally with families and patient representatives together with BCUHB staff to ensure that Medical Certificates of the Cause of Death are issued by the hospital. The post holder will also be responsible for liaising with the Medical Examiner service and the HM Corner service and providing a service to pregnancy loss remains.
The post will entail facilitating family and coroner viewings, on occasions overseeing the mortuary body stores and disposal of pregnancy loss remains, providing support to the service across the health board sites.
The post holder will be expected to participate in an on-call rota.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 4 in Customer Service or have an equivalent or demonstrate equivalent skills, knowledge and experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of death registration and statutory duties.
- Knowledge of and understanding of consent.
- Knowledge of the structures and requirements of the Human Tissue Authority.
- Continuing professional development
- Knowledge of and understanding of the Medical Examiners Office.
- Knowledge of rituals of other beliefs and ethnic groups related to death.
Desirable criteria
- ECDL

- Experience of working in the care of the deceased.
- Proven record of excellent communication skills when having difficult conversations.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
