Job overview

Across the Midlands, we are on an exciting journey of transition, transforming systems, process and structures to ensure oral health maintains a high profile within the health and social care system.

We are seeking to appoint a number of enthusiastic, dynamic, self-motivated and innovative individuals to join us in the role of Consultant in Dental Public Health. The successful candidates will join a dedicated and committed Healthcare Public Health team and bring professional credibility and robust leadership to engage, support, develop and deliver the dental public health offer to the NHS and wider system.

To succeed in this role, candidates will be familiar with the wide range of stakeholders who can contribute to Dental Public Health outcomes and have a clear focus on the Public Health added value they can offer.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant in Dental Public Health will be expected to provide strategic leadership and expert dental public health advice to NHS England – Midlands, working closely with Dental Commissioning teams.

The successful candidates will also provide their expertise and advice to local public health systems, clinical dental services as well as other health and care services, to support and lead improvement in oral health and reduction of inequalities. They will collaborate effectively with Local Authorities, Integrated Care Systems, Partnerships and Boards as well as Primary Care Networks, Local Professional Networks, dental and general public health colleagues, academic dental public heath colleagues and the national dental public health network.

Within the Midlands, they will support the strategic contribution to improving and protecting the public’s health and reducing health inequalities. There will be opportunities to contribute to national work programmes and develop academic links.

The Consultants in Dental Public Health will work over an East Midlands footprint.

This new NHS England is designed to create a simpler, smaller, high performing, organisation that leads the NHS more effectively and is a better place to work. Speaking with one voice to the service.

The new NHS England board have set out the top-level purpose for the new organisation to lead the NHS in England to deliver high-quality services for all, which will inform the detailed design work and we will achieve this purpose by:

  • Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities.
  • Making the NHS a great place to work, where our people can make a difference and achieve their potential.
  • Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
  • Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation
  • Delivering value for money.
