Job overview

The Directorate General Manager is responsible for strategic, operational and performance management, service quality and planning, resource use and modernisation in the Site with the particular requirement to deliver waiting time Targets.  This will require well developed extensive knowledge and experience across a diverse range of managerial and clinical areas including estates, human resources, finance, governance, clinical/other service delivery.

 

The Directorate General Manager is a key member of the Hospital Management Team and as such will participate in and contribute to the corporate planning and performance management arrangements of the Hospital Site by leading on their operational area of work.  There is particular emphasis on improving patient care, experience and service standards and increasing efficiency. To facilitate this there is a need to working closely with the Area structures to manage the interface between primary, community and secondary care.

 

The Directorate General Manager will operate with significant autonomy and is responsible for the identification and translation of health service policy and strategy, embedding this within a performance management framework for the Hospital. The Directorate General Manager will manage staff on the Site in relation to the delivery of operational, financial, performance and activity targets.   

Main duties of the job

Accountable for the delivery of the Hospital Site’s multiple clinical, professional and other services, in accordance with Health Board governance arrangements, and statutory compliance requirements.

       Responsible for  the  efficient  management  of  the  Hospital Site,  ensuring  timely  and appropriate decisions to deliver quality patient care within the resources available.

       Work closely with the Hospital Site’s lead professional managers and consultant medical staff in ensuring that their individual operational plans are consistent with corporate objectives and priorities and ensure that individual priorities are determined within the Directorate.

       Develop and operate performance management systems for the effective and efficient use of resources in accordance with Health Board policy.

       To interpret National policies such as Patient Access, National Service Frameworks and Clinical Governance Standards.  In order to translate into deliverable action plans and to influence and propose changes to local Health Board policies.

       Ensure effective and timely communication with all staff throughout the Directorate and between Directorates.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
