The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2024/2025 and will be implemented in November 2024 backdated to 1st April 2024 where applicable.
Job overview
An opportunity has arisen to appoint Band 5 Biomedical Scientist into our existing Cellular Pathology team. All posts will be based in our purpose built laboratory facility at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan.
We are happy to accept applications from HCPC registered BMS or from those with IBMS approved Biomedical Scientist degrees that will complete their portfolio in the next 12 months. Candidates not HCPC registered will be paid as Trainee Biomedical Scientist at annex 21 of a Band 5.
Main duties of the job
Our Cellular pathology service is continually developing with an exciting programme to deliver the latest in mechanised slide scanning technology and computational pathology. Any new scientists joining our team will be central to delivering the future of Cellular Pathology in North Wales; working together to meet the needs of the clinical service users and develop our service repertoire and structure whilst protecting and progressing service quality and effectiveness. Successful applicants will be encouraged to develop and extend their experience in all areas of the department.
This is a fantastic opportunity for newly qualified (or soon to be assessed) scientists to join this large, forward thinking laboratory service as we map out our future.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
- State Registration with the HCPC or expected within 12 months
Desirable criteria
- Able to provide evidence of ongoing personal development (essential development)
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a laboratory using manual and automated techniques (Sufficient experience)
Desirable criteria
- General familiarity with common computer software (Microsoft office)
SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Ability to pick up techniques quickly following a training program.
- Ability to supervise others
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- Good interpersonal skills
KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Basic and specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures undertaken in the department.
- Knowledge of quality control and assurance.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory Accreditation requirements.
- Knowledge of Laboratory Information management systems
