Job overview

Due to the introduction of new ways of working, we are recruiting one highly motivated, conscientious, patient focused Pharmacy Technician to join the busy Cancer Centre Pharmacy team. This exciting role will complement our existing technician roles to support the expansion of technician-led ward based, clinical services, Drive-Through and Homecare activity particularly for oral anti cancer therapy (SACT).

We are looking for enthusiastic, innovative, individuals with excellent communication and organisational skills. Our team approach, along with new technology will provide timely, accurate pharmaceutical care and improved patient flow for the North Wales Cancer Centre.  

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

This post will work closely with Clinical Pharmacists, the wider Clinical Team and patients to provide a comprehensive and optimised medicines management service to inpatients, daycase and outpatients, including leading on the expansion of the oral SACT services and homecare delivery. It is essential to be able to manage your own workload to ensure the provision of a timely and efficient service. 

 Supporting existing roles, you will also lead the development and expansion of the operational services provided from the Cancer Centre Pharmacy Dispensary.This will include expanding roles whilst maintaining safe practices, developing SOPs, and support training of new staff. The post-holder will be given an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills further through development opportunities.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Services Skills (QCF) or equivalent
  • WCPPE National Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician Qualification
  • WCPPE National Accredited Medicines Management Qualification or working towards
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of relevant professional Association
  • Accredited NVQ Assessor

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to demonstrate suitable level of experience
  • General dispensing
  • Experience of patient-orientated medicines systems
  • Working in hospital pharmacy dispensary services
  • Basic knowledge of the therapeutic use of drugs

Aptitudes and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate effectively with a variety of service users
  • Is aware of, and is able to work within own limitations.
  • Ability to organise own workload and support the workload of the department.
