The salary scale above has been agreed as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2024/2025 and will be implemented in November 2024 backdated to 1st April 2024 where applicable.
Job overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Pharmacy Hospital Operations Manager to join the pharmacy team in the Central Integrated Health Community (CIHC). As a member of the CIHC Senior Pharmacy Leadership Team, you will actively contribute to and shape the strategic planning of the service.
If you have experience of operational management and service delivery and have good leadership and communication skills then we can offer you a stimulating and fulfilling role, with support from an established and experienced senior team.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
- Be responsible for the professional leadership, development and management of Hospital Pharmacy, within the Pharmacy and Medicines Management Division, to deliver Pharmacy practice that is evidence based and measurable.
- Lead on provision of expert pharmaceutical advice within the Hospital Pharmacy. i.e. compliance with medicines legislation; emergency planning and procurement.
- Responsible for stimulating, initiating, and co-ordinating the implementation of audit, practice research and development activity in Medicines Management.
- Bid and implement new technology e.g. the logistical supply of medicines to clinical settings and patients.
- Responsible for Clinical Governance, patient quality and safety; and improving the patient experience in the Hospital Pharmacy.
- Lead and support specific projects and areas of work, developing strategies for service improvement that reflect clinical, professional and corporate/directorate objectives.
- Support the Central IHC Director Pharmacy & Medicines Management, in the delivery of the divisions agenda within the Health Board.
- Deputise for the Chief Pharmacist, Director Pharmacy & Medicines Management representing the Health Board in the professional domain.

Experience
Essential criteria
- A substantive level of post qualification experience in primary care/secondary care.
- Able to demonstrate a suitable level of experience in providing specialist pharmacy services.
- Responsibility for performance management within pharmacy
- Evidence of strategy development and change management in complex situations
- Experience of success in service development
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrable experience of managing conflicting priorities within tight budgets and/or time constraints
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered pharmacist GPhC Masters Degree or equivalent in pharmacy
- Management qualification or equivalent experience
- A substantive level of experience in a managerial post
- Post-graduate diploma/MSc in relevant pharmacy area or equivalent documented experience in relevant area
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate management qualification

Essential criteria
- Strategic vision and project management
- Strong operational management experience
- Ability to motivate and manage staff effectively
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of drug expenditure control
- Awareness of statutory and professional standards that apply to prescribing and pharmacy services.

- Evidence of leadership skills and ability to influence and negotiate within the service, and external stakeholders.
