Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced dietitian with excellent clinical and communication skills to join our integrated Diabetes and Nutrition Service (DANS). We are looking for someone with a keen interest in service delivery and development who will work with the DANS leadership team in developing the service to meet our key objectives, one of which is addressing the impact of any health inequalities relating to 
nutrition and dietetic pathways.

The successful candidate will demonstrate highly effective clinical skills and experience across the clinical pathways with Diabetes experience an advantage. They will provide support and guidance to clinicians working across the BNSSG community in a range of settings such as clinics, and home settings. 

The service delivers education, advice and support via a range of pathways including a dedicated advice and guidance service to other health care professionals and in-reach to Sirona Adult Learning Disabilities Health Service. This includes providing clinical expertise underpinned by advanced skills in Clinical Practice, Facilitating Learning, Leadership, and Evidence, Research and Development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will deliver high quality care within the nutrition and dietetics pathways and provide expert clinical practice, advice to patients, and support to staff. This is delivered in a range of community settings.

This will include providing clinical expertise, underpinned by the advanced skills within their specialty developed in Clinical Practice, Facilitating Learning, Leadership, and Evidence, Research, and Development.

Taking a key role in the development and delivery of DANS services through:

  • Provision of advanced Clinical Dietetic expertise in conjunction with the Clinical and Operational Leads
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the MDT and stakeholders to establish a whole systems approach to deliver improvements in healthcare for people within the nutrition and dietetic pathways
  • Providing clinical leadership, expertise, education and clinical supervision to immediate team members and other individuals across the organisation and system
  • Using specialty expertise and decision-making skills to inform clinical reasoning approaches when dealing with individual presentations and complex situations
  • Developing and delivering Health Care Professional training as required across the sphere of nutrition and dietetics

The  clinical component of the role will be agreed  based on prior specialist experience and interest.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Enhanced clinical skills in the knowledge, management, and support of patients within at least one pathway within the Diabetes and Nutrition Service
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills, building effective working relationships with staff and management at all levels within the organisation and external environments
  • Ability to work with a high level of autonomy and shared decision making
  • Experience of managing staff (of own and other professions) including providing feedback and assessment, developing skills and competencies and delegating work as appropriate
  • Experience of working across organisational and professional boundaries to improve care for people with nutrition related conditions
  • In-depth experience of ensuring clinical standards are met and evaluated, participating in audit and researching service improvement activities
  • Ability to create, foster and build effective working relationships with all service users and stakeholders
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience in coaching team members
  • Knowledge of local, national, strategic, and operational policy developments and an awareness of their implications

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Current registration with HCPC or other relevant professional body of registration
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development within nutrition and dietetics, and ability to study at Masters level
  • Successful completion of a relevant post-graduate L7 course or appropriate equivalent modules, such as disease specific qualifications, Physical assessment and clinical reasoning or other relevant courses
  • Up to date evidence-based knowledge of nutrition and dietetics, national and local guidelines and evidence base via current research and journals
  • To be able to travel between a variety of locations within BNSSG. A motorised vehicle is required
Desirable criteria
  • Masters level clinical qualification or evidence of working at masters level
