An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the West Community Services Team as a Deputy Community Specialities Manager for a 12 month period to cover maternity leave (fixed term contract for external candidates or secondment for internal candidates).

 The successful candidate will support the Operational Management Team in the management of specialities and services within the Community Portfolio as well as support development and strategic transformation. The post holder will have direct operational and management responsibility for the administrative staff within specified services and will work closely with the management and wider team in the Community to monitor and progress activity and performance including cancer and RTT to achieve targets set out by the Welsh Government.

This role involves being an integral member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and will require close working with all staff to ensure delivery of targets and providing a quality and safe service for patients, relatives and staff. The post holder should have excellent communication skills, be an organised and pro-active individual as well as being motivated and possessing good leadership skills.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the management of administrative, secretarial and clerical staff within agreed specialities in the department.

Attend appropriate Management Team and speciality meetings ensuring all relevant action points are followed up as necessary.

Develop a detailed knowledge of administrative and clerical requirements and provide advice/contribute to the service development in line with key national initiatives and departmental objectives.

Ensure good lines of communication are maintained at all times with administration and clerical staff including the dissemination of necessary information e.g. Team Brief meetings. Ensure relevant issues are highlighted to the senior management team as appropriate.

Development & Implementation of service development, including new services, operational plans and business cases in relation to administration and clerical issues.

Ensure that departmental and corporate objectives relating to administration and clerical staff are achieved.

Ensure effective joint working and communication with other departments in the Health Board.

Chair regular meetings for administration and clerical staff in the Department. This requires an advanced degree/level of communication skills in order to convey complicated, difficult messages to large groups of staff and deal with potentially aggravated situations.

Represent the department as and when required e.g. by attending Health Board wide project groups.
