The Amethyst Sexual Assault Referral Centre is a partnership initiative between North Wales Police, Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board and Third Sector Agencies. The centre provides support to women, men and children in North Wales who have been raped or sexually assaulted. The Centre aims to provide a comprehensive approach to rape and sexual assault.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the provision of a Children and Young Peoples Sexual Violence Advocate, as a fixed term contract until the 20/12/2025.
The role involves providing specialist case support work and advocacy to children and young people who have experiences sexual assault or sexual abuse. Playing a key role in ensuring the child’s voice is heard and their needs are at the centre of the process
Main duties of the job
To deliver advocacy support within the Amethyst SARC, to children and young people who have experienced sexual assault or sexual abuse in North Wales. The post holder will provide extensive support to children and young people while ensuring that child protection procedures are followed within a child centred service.
The post holder will work in partnership with Social Services, Police, Education, Crown Prosecution Service and Voluntary Agencies to ensure that children and young people are adequately supported through child protection, criminal justice and follow on support processes.
The post holder will prioritise, assess, plan, evaluate and deliver all relevant aspects of care to an agreed and expected high standard. They will work closely with the multi disciplinary team and contribute to the clinical governance process.
This post requires excellent communication skills, a flexible approach, the ability to work both on your own initiative and with a wide range of partnership agencies, and an understanding of the impact of sexual assault. A genuine commitment to working with this client group and a passion for this area of work is essential.
It will be essential for the post holder to have the ability to travel across North Wales.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main Duties
· To engage with children, young people and their families/carers accessing SARC, taking into account their needs, background, rights and current circumstances and establishing trust, confidence and facilitating communication.
· To advise the child, young person and their parents/carers of the context of services within the child protection and criminal justice frameworks
· To empower and enable children and young people accessing SARC to take age appropriate responsibility for their own decisions and ensure that relevant and up to date information and advice is available at all times, so that they can make an informed choice.
· To provide contact to parent and/or carer within 72 hours of initial attendance at SARC to offer advocacy
· To provide face to face and telephone support services to children, young people and their families/carers, both short and long term
· To complete an assessment of the child’s/young person’s emotional and health needs and make the appropriate referrals
· To liaise with the police and criminal justice agencies on behalf of the child, young person, parent/carer, adhering to the confidentiality policy in relation to release of information
· To provide support to clients during the trial phase in conjunction with other services and including pre court visits if appropriate
· To liaise with the investigating officer in the case in relation to witness statements, case progression and court result
· To liaise with the Crown Prosecution Service in respect of case progression and communication with client. Where available this will be the specialist rape team /CPS and will include discussion and if necessary facilitate meetings between clients and CPS and advocacy in relation to criminal justice outcomes as directed by CPS best practice.
· To maintain records and case tracking systems relating to child and young people’s cases
· To participate in case conference review when required
· To participate in regular supervision
· To work as part of the multidisciplinary team within SARC to deliver high quality care and support and to participate in the development of services
· To follow all child protection policies and procedures
· To participate in training and development of other staff and partner agencies when necessary and help to ensure a conducive learning environment
· To consider child protection issues when engaging with clients and to follow all child protection policies and procedures
· To deputise for the SARC manager on a day to day basis when the manager is absent
· To adhere to all Health Board policies
