Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Diabetes and Nutrition Service (DANS) as a Band 5 Community Dietitian. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain both inpatient and community experience across Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) working within a friendly team of band 5, 6 and 7 dietitians and diabetes specialist nurses.

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, and innovative Dietitians to join our growing team of multi professional staff.

You will have the opportunity to work across different settings including rehabilitation units, residential care, patient’s own homes, and clinics.

As a Specialist Service we work closely with the community learning disabilities team, tissue viability, and respiratory specialist services, community integrated network teams, and primary, secondary, and social care. We also in-reach into the sub-acute stroke rehabilitation unit and community stroke rehab team which requires the management of enteral feeding post stroke and transition of patients back home.

We are looking for someone who has a passion to work in the community to improve health outcomes across BNSSG. The role is suitable for new graduates and those who have previous working experience. We would also welcome applications from those who are in their final year of Dietetic study.

Please call us if you wish to get further information on this role or to speak to one of our current band 5 dietitians.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a practical, forward-thinking approach to service delivery and the ability to work in a team. You will also need to be an excellent communicator with the ability to work in a holistic manner and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

You will have the opportunity to gain experience working in different specialties on a rotational basis including stroke, learning disabilities, IBS, and rehabilitation.

This role includes delivery of diabetes patient structured education, MUST training to Health Care Professionals, and holding your own caseload of clinic and home visit patients. We provide dietetic care to the BNSSG sub acute stroke rehab unit which provides opportunity for experience working with enterally fed patients.

Our service users have a variety of clinical conditions such as stroke, progressive neurological diseases, learning disabilities and diabetes. This means that they often have a range of complex health needs, such as eating and drinking difficulties, and additional communication needs.
We offer a robust induction to the service and a preceptorship programme for the first 12 months to all new graduates. We are committed to CPD, and personal development and have good clinical supervision models and in-house CPD to support you, including regular team MDT sessions.
