Job overview

Vaccination is a public health tool that prevents serious illness, protecting people, communities and the NHS in Wales – Welsh Government (2022) National Immunisation Framework for Wales.

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to operationally lead and manage the BCUHB Central IHC Area School Nursing Immunisation team covering Conwy & Denbighshire Areas. The immunisation team provide a routine and catch-up immunisation service to children and young people, which is delivered within schools, community clinics and within children’s homes.

The post is advertised as 22.5 hours per week. The post holder would be located at Kinmel Bay Clinic and would be expected to travel across Conwy & Denbighshire. 

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide highly visible, professional leadership, management, and expertise to the immunisation team, ensuring that the service provided is of a high quality.

The post holder will have broad knowledge within the field of childhood immunisations and a wider understanding of the health needs of the school-aged population, across the localities covered by the team. You will develop excellent working relationships with School Nursing Teams, partner colleagues within Education Services across the Area and Local Child Health Teams.

The postholder will supervise and co-ordinate the deployment of team members and will tailor the delivery of Immunisation Programmes to reduce inequalities and improve vaccination uptake.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • NMC Registered Nurse with Qualifications appropriate to the Service Area Managed
  • Continued professional and management development
  • Relevant Degree
  • Recognised and relevant management qualification or must be achieved 1 - 2 years of being in post
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of mentoring
  • Assessment and / or teaching

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Management experience at band 6 or above
  • Relevant Clinical Experience
  • Child Protection / Safeguarding training at Level 3
