Occupational Health Staff Nurse

We are a partnership of 10 north central London NHS trusts whose purpose is to deliver high quality and better value shared NHS corporate services at scale.
Launched on 1 December 2021 with transactional recruitment services, our experienced and knowledgeable team help staff across our network to access the information, systems and processes they need quickly and seamlessly, allowing staff to focus on the frontline and enabling the best use of NHS resources.
The NLPSS board is made up of executive-level representatives from each trust in the partnership who agree on an annual business plan which is executed by the managing director. Within this structure, individual services are accountable to the managing director, who reports to the board.
NLPSS is hosted by The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, acting as the legal entity, contracting authority and main employer of staff.
Job overview
The Occupational Health Staff Nurse will be an integral part of the service and will be required to participate in the provision of full clinical Occupational Health nursing services to all the partners and customers of NLPSS, Occupational Health and Wellbeing. The OH staff nurse will participate in promoting the health and wellbeing of employees and support in safeguarding their health from risks arising from their work and their working environment. There is the opportunity for sponsorship to undertake the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) – OH course on a part time basis
Main duties of the job
The applicant will also be expected to participate in a range of Occupational Health nursing tasks which will protect employee’s pre-employment and in-employment health and wellbeing. These include -
· Pre-employment health screening and assessment of fitness to work, with recommendations for adjustments to the workplace in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, under supervision of a qualified occupational health nurse.
· Administer a range of occupational immunisations in accordance with the Written Instructions. Develop knowledge in assessing and advising clients/customers about the side effects, effectiveness, follow up and rationale for giving occupational immunisations.
· Ensure that all data regarding blood tests and immunisations are accurately recorded on the computerised database, that customers are informed of any outstanding screening or immunisations.
· Assess the need for further information from GP, specialist or previous employer, the need for pre-employment blood tests in accordance with Department of Health guidelines and gain the appropriate consent.
· Effectively communicate the client’s/customer’s rights under the Data Protect Act (2018) and Access to Health Records Act (1990)
· The OH staff Nurse will be involved in research and audit to support in the delivery of evidence-based practices and the highest possible standards of care.
Working for our organisation
The NLPSS shared Occupational Health and Wellbeing (OHWB) Service currently provides services to five NHS Trust within North Central London, including Whittington Health Trust, North London Foundation Trust, the Royal National Orthopaedic Trust, and Royal Free London which now comprises of three hospital units, Chase Farm Hospital, Barnet Hospital and North Middlesex University Hospital. We also provide Occupational Health and Wellbeing services to non-NHS customers.
Our shared service offers great opportunities for the post holder to be introduced into the speciality of Occupational Health Nursing and to experience working from a variety of sites and within a multi-disciplinary team.
