Job overview
An exciting 12 months fixed term opportunity has arisen within Health and Justice Services for a qualified Speech and Language Therapist to provide maternity cover into the Secure Outreach Transitions Team. Fixed term post may be extended if funding becomes available.
The post holder will be part of a dynamic SLT service in Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, with well defined peer support, supervision systems and CPD opportunities.
The post holder will have some experience working with service users in mental health or learning disabilities and experience of working with people in forensic services would be desirable.
This post will be based with the Secure Outreach Transitions Team based at Roseberry Park Hospital in Middlesbrough
You will be expected to work Monday – Friday Flexible hours will be considered. The post will be to commence as soon as possible with a period of induction and training.
The post will be subject to Police/ Prison vetting.

Main duties of the job
Working with the multi disciplinary team supporting adults with learning disability and autism with a forensic history. The SLT will complete communication assessments and provide therapy as well as advising on communication reasonable adjustments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Appropriate professional qualification in speech and language therapy role
- or pending Current relevant registration with HCPC
- or pending International English Language Testing System (IELTS) level 8 for international recruits
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate training in relevant specialist area
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in a variety of practice areas whilst on student placements or postgraduate
Desirable criteria
- Experience of supporting people with mental health issues, learning disability or autism
- Experience of working in Multidisciplinary Team
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Awareness of professional standards and their application to practice
- Understanding of the needs of service users with mental health conditions and/or learning disabilities.
Desirable criteria
- Clinical risk assessment and application in practice
- Knowledge of evidence based practice in designated specialist area
