Are you an experienced Nurse, Physio or Paramedic in Urgent Care?

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a group of Urgent Care Professionals in the picturesque Clevedon, North Somerset.  

You will be leading a team of outstanding clinical and admin staff who deliver first-class care to the North Somerset Community.  

You will be part of the wider PBUC Unit Managers team, and be integral in supporting each other across the three units.  

Main duties of the job

Your primary purpose will be to provide operational and clinical leadership and management of the Place-Based Urgent Care Unit (MIU), taking responsibility for developing and implementing standards and processes within the Unit, and for the continual development of the team, and supporting the other PBUC Unit Managers.  

You will also work with the Place-Based Urgent Care Management Team to ensure that service provision across the Place-Based Urgent Care Service is: 

·       Delivered to the highest possible standards. 

·       Delivered as consistently as is possible across the various settings. 

·       Delivered within a defined safe staffing capacity. 

·       Meets the requirements of the appropriate service specifications. 

You will have responsibility for the provision of clinical and local strategic leadership, including the monitoring of quality and performance for place-based urgent care provision in the Unit, leading and coordinating several projects that will contribute to the achievement of service objectives and wider organisational goals. 

Your role will be key to maintaining and improving the performance of place-based urgent care provision and the resultant impact on the organisation as a whole. You will be required to lead by example to gain the best from services and staff, ensuring they are supported to remain engaged, positively challenged, and effective. 

You will be expected to offer peer support to the other PBUC Unit Managers, which may include supporting and working at other units.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge Required

Essential criteria
  • Advanced autonomous practice within an emergency /urgent care arena
  • Experience of working within a multi professional team
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with complex and urgent patients and to problem solve
  • High level verbal and written communication skills which allow complex decision making at a clinical, operational, and strategic level
  • Clinical support for all those undertaking post graduate clinical training e.g., NMP, ECP courses
  • Responsibility for managing clinical risk, to ensure patient safety and drive forward quality improvement
  • Previous experience working in a Health and Social Care Community setting and/or other relevant multi- disciplinary environment of a similar size and complexity.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures for both children and adults and experience of supporting front line staff in delivery.
  • Experience of leading a staff debrief following serious clinical incidents
  • Experience supporting staff to carry out risk assessments for mental health, safeguarding issues, domestic violence and violence and aggression incidents
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the transformation agenda and the legislative, regulatory and performance management framework for health and social care.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership skills, credibility and integrity and ability to manage through change.
  • Experience of managing performance
  • Demonstrates excellent problem solving and decision-making skills and evidences ability to make informed decisions whilst considering wider organisational and business impacts.
  • Evidence of ability to resolve complex issues within service area, including those with staff implications using sound logic and taking into consideration relevant business implications.
  • Good working knowledge of typical work-related systems, procedures, equipment, and technology.
  • Good levels of IT literacy including good knowledge of service-related systems.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking service reviews and redesign.
  • Knowledge of various Health Care fields and a variety of disciplines including AHP’s and nurses.
  • Involvement in strategic decision making and partnership working
  • Sound financial awareness and ability to maximise use of resources
  • Ability to develop, manage and lead using own initiative and under minimal supervision.

Qualifications and Training Required

Essential criteria
  • Professional registration and Masters level clinical qualification or equivalent
  • Non-medical prescribing course, Minor Injury and Illness qualification, and mentorship/teaching and assessing of equivalent course with associated experience
  • Knowledge of the recognition of the deteriorating patient including NEWS2, principles of triage and an ABCD approach
  • Knowledge of understanding of issues and policy relating to medicines management, safe storage and use of harmful substances
  • Knowledge of CBRN, PREVENT and Emergency planning initiatives i.e., major incidents and business continuity
  • Operational management experience including experience of managing and developing multi-disciplinary teams in a variety of locations.
  • Comprehensive development in professional and management procedures within own area and across several related disciplines relevant to service area.
Desirable criteria
  • HEE ACP Accreditation.
